Bear's Restaurant in Covington offers a straightforward, no-frills dining experience centered around classic Louisiana po-boys. Known primarily as a sandwich shop and family-friendly restaurant, it draws locals who appreciate hearty, well-made roast beef po-boys served fully dressed, often paired with a cold Barq’s root beer. The menu focuses heavily on variations of po-boys—from roast beef and shrimp to BBQ beef and cheeseburgers—alongside simple sides like fries and homemade cookies, which keeps the spotlight on the main attraction: the sandwiches themselves.

The atmosphere is casual and clean, reflecting a down-to-earth spot where families and longtime residents come to grab a satisfying meal rather than linger over a slow dinner. Seating can feel tight during busy times, especially since Bear’s is popular enough that parking might be limited on weekends or lunch rushes. Despite this, the friendly staff and consistent quality help maintain a welcoming vibe. The place works well for a quick bite or a casual lunch with family—a spot where you can count on familiar flavors and straightforward service.

Bear’s seems best enjoyed during lunch hours when po’boys are at their freshest and the bustling energy of Covington adds to the experience. People looking for an authentic local po-boy without the fuss will find this restaurant fitting, whether they’re stopping in alone or bringing along family. While not a full-service dining destination, Bear’s carved-out niche serving simple, Louisiana-style sandwiches that speak to the area’s culinary traditions with reliable flavor and no distractions.

I’ve been coming to bears with my gramps since I was little. The staff is always super friendly. The food is top notch. We always get a roast beef po boy and some root beer. Prices are affordable and the food is great. Other options aside from roast beef is chicken shrimp ham and more. The place is super clean. The only downside is the parking since it is a pretty popular spot parking can be a haste but I would highly recommend to anyone that likes a good po boy sandwich.

Haven’t been in a decade and was quickly reminded how amazing this place was. Roast. Beef. Poboy. Fully dressed with fries. That is all you need to know. I had the second half of it this morning and I just had to go leave a review. Seating could be better, and a little bit of a wait. But absolutely worth it.

Simply one of the best PO BOYS in the entire area. The only disappointing part is that they aren't open 7 days a week. You just can't go wrong with a PO BOY from Bear's. A+, 5 Stars!

Picked up 3 roast beef po boys to take to my grandson’s home as a surprise. Best choice, he was so pleased.

This was the BEST poboy I have ever had! I was in and out the door! I am mad that I only got a half of one. I will definitely be back. I came all the way from Texas for it

Service was fast & efficient .Friendly staff. Clean tables & seating area. Food was awesome, fresh ,tasty. Sandwiches were packed with meat, fresh French Bread(Po-Boy) the Roast Beef was tender, tasty, gravy was great. Best I've had in years, closes at 3pm, so check it out. Very crowded but line to order goes fast and efficient by decent & dedicated staff. Table area quickly cleaned up after patrons who didnt pick up after themselves. Restroom was clean ,Hot water and paper towels, soap provided. Just off busy Hwy 21-N Collins, crowded parking at peak times. Suggest go after 2pm, a line but goes quick. Try the Roast beef po-boy...The Ferdie(ham & roast beef combo) Amazing!
